MARRIAGE LICENSE RULES AND REGULATIONS:

 To apply for an Oregon Marriage License, follow these steps:

1. Fill out and sign the License Application. Use black ink only. Do not leave any blank spaces & do not crosscut any of the pre-printed text.

2. Bring the completed form to the Marriage License office in person at least 3 days before the wedding ceremony, and pay the $60,00 fee in cash or certified funds only. Personal checks, credit cards & debit cards cannot be accepted.
No refunds allowed.

-You do not have to be an Oregon resident to obtain a Marriage License.

-Persons who have been divorced must follow the law for the state where the divorce was granted.

Completing the Oregon marriage License Application:

Both bride and groom must complete and sign an application to obtain the Marriage License. However, anyone can pick up and return the application in person with the fee.

The application must be typed or printed In BLACK INK ONLY. Do not use blue; or any other color, as those do not microfilm well. All information requested on the form must be provided or the application will be rejected. Don't forget to sign the application!

3-DAY WAITING PERIOD for Oregon Marriage License:

Oregon law requires a three-day waiting period before a marriage can take place after a license has been issued.

 

WAIVER FOR WAITING PERIOD:

 However, the waiting period may be waived by the
County Clerk. The waiver must be signed by either the bride or the groom in person before the license can be issued.

CONSENT for Applicants 17 Years of Age to obtain an Oregon Marriage license:

Oregon Law prohibits the issuance of a Marriage License to anyone less than17 years of age. Applicants under 17 years old must have the written consent of their parent or guardian. If either applicant has no parent or guardian resident within the state of Oregon and has resided within the County for six months, an Affidavit stating these facts must be obtained from a third party. Obtain consent forms or affidavit from the Marriage License Section.

 

AFTER THE MARRIAGE LICENSE IS ISSUED:

REMEMBER, the Oregon marriage license is not effective until three days after it is issued. It remains valid for 60 days after that effective date.

The marriage license can be used anywhere in the State of Oregon.

 

MARRIAGE OFFICIANTS / MINISTERS

Your Oregon marriage can be officiated by:

1. A religious leader who is authorized by a religious congregation/organization.

2. A judge.

 

WITNESSES to Oregon Marriage Ceremony:

Two persons over age 18 are required to witness the solemnization of the marriage.

 

RECORDING OREGON MARRIAGE LICENSE

Following the marriage ceremony, the completed Oregon License and Record of Marriage must be returned to issuing County Marriage License Section within (10) days of your marriage. The officiating minister, judge, or County Clerk is responsible to return the License and Record of Marriage.

There is no record of the marriage until the completed Oregon License and Record of Marriage has been returned to the Oregon Marriage License Department that issued it.

 

CERTIFIED COPIES OF OREGON MARRIAGE LICENSE

County Marriage License Department does not send certified copies of your Oregon Marriage license to you automatically; you must specifically request them from the office.

To obtain a certified copy of your Oregon Marriage License and Record of Marriage, come to the Marriage License office in person, or call the issuing office to get their procedure for obtaining copies by mail.

Be prepared to provide the date of marriage, Groom's name and Bride's maiden name.

There is a charge for each certified copy and may differ from county to county.
